What is the cost like of living in New Zealand at present?

In a recent survey carried out by Mercer Human Resource Consulting which measures the cost of living in 144 cities across six continents. New Zealand's cities ranked just about in the middle of the survey. New Zealand cities Auckland and Wellington , ranked 69th and 76th respectively. Cities such as Sydney ranked 20th , Glasgow 40th and Madrid 47th

In the latest 2006 Mercer Quality of Life Survey carried out in 215 cities worldwide, was based on criteria such as political, social, economic/environmental factors, personal safety, health, education, transport and other public services. Some of the other criteria included in the survey was its relationship with other countries, internal stability and crime, including terrorism. Personal freedom, censorship and law enforcement were also taken into account. New Zealand cities Auckland and Wellington ranked 5th and 12th overall.
